Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of the forest school method in fostering independence among early childhood learners at TKIT Ataya Tahfidz School, Rajeg, Tangerang Regency. The research employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through field observations, interviews with teachers and parents, as well as documentation of learning activities. The data analysis followed the interactive model proposed by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. To ensure data validity, source, method, and time triangulation were applied. The findings reveal that: (1) The forest school approach is implemented through outdoor learning activities that allow children to explore, make decisions, and act independently; (2) Supporting factors include the teacher’s role as facilitator, the availability of open natural spaces within the school, and the enthusiasm of children during activities, while challenges involve limited green space and varying levels of adaptability among students; (3) This method has positively influenced children’s independence, such as improved self-help skills, emotional regulation, responsibility, and social interaction. In conclusion, forest school-based learning has proven to significantly support the development of independence in early childhood, in line with Islamic values and the holistic needs of child development.
