Abstract

Halal certification is a requirement to obtain permits for the inclusion of halal labels on products from the authorized institution, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). The majority of  MSME food products in Serdang Kulon Village do not use halal certification although most of the Serdang Kulon Village people are muslims. This study aims to obtain information about the level of understanding of  MSME people towards halal certification in food products and find out whether there is an effort of MSME Serdang Kulon village people for halal certification in food products. Researchers used qualitative methods to determine the level of understanding of MSME people towards halal certification in dodol semi-wet food product. Researcher collected the data through observation, interviews, and documentation of MSME. The number of informants or respondents in this study was 3 main informants of MSME people and 2 supporting informants from MUI LPPOM and academicians. The results of this study indicate that the level of understanding of MSME people who do not yet have halal certification is classified as low. Meanwhile, there have been no efforts made by the MSME to certify halal on food products.
